Our Story
June 2006 ~Nancy & Fernando Meet
On June 18, 2006, Nancy and Fernando met for the first time, and the connection was immediate. Nancy was taken by Fernando's charming smile and wonderful sense of humor and Fernando, as he likes to tell it, was immediately struck by Nancy's Italian eyes and sparkling smile. The meeting was electric and we knew that something special was about to begin.
June 2009 ~The Engagement
Nearly three years later, on June 3, 2009, the last day of our trip to Barcelona, we decided to rent a car and head north. We started with the monastery at Montserrat. The monastery is at the top of the mountains in northern Barcelona and the view is spectacular. Built @1500, the monastery is considered to be a very holy place as it is the home of one of the Black Madonna's: a statue believed to be carved around the 1100's...
The shrine to the Madonna is up several levels and corridors and is located in the apse behind the altar where the mass is given. The colors of the art and tile work on the way up to the Madonna are incredibly vibrant and brilliant. As it is some distance from the entrance of the church to the Madonna, we waited in line for about an hour.
Just as we made our way to her, Fernando proposed... right there in front of the Black Madonna. The passage is so narrow and there was a long line of other tourists waiting to see the shrine, so the proposal completely took Nancy by surprise - which was a delicious treat unto itself.
After that, we continued up the highway for about 2 1/2 hours and crossed the French border to the small town of Perpignan. We really liked the idea of being in two countries on the day during which we got engaged. By the time we got there, though, most places were closed, so we ate our engagement night dinner at a French McDonalds! In fact, Nancy asked Fernando to propose again, so we could be affianced in two countries. Right then and there, he got down on one knee and proposed again... in good old Micky-D's!!
June 2010 ~The Wedding!
